    Challenge

    Optimize batteries management

Offgrid systems combine batteries with renewables and conventional power sources. They can have various sizes, from industrial microgrids to whole island grids, and are not connected to national grids. The Energy Management System (EMS) is the brain of such systems. It maintains grid balance and optimizes the power mix. Providing the EMS with power forecasts for local wind and solar plants helps it to anticipate storage requirements. It allows for improved grid balance and a reduced fuel consumption.

Our forecasts help storage and minigrids operators to:

    1.

Calibrate the EMS at project development stage

Choose the battery model and the algorithm that best matches productions trends revealed by the forecasts

    2.

Optimize day to day batteries’ cycling

Chose the best charge / discharge strategy based on production forecasts

Example: Day-ahead forecast to better pilot the batteries

Thanks to our forecasts, the EMS will know it needs to discharge the batteries before 11am to be able to store excess renewable electricity during the 1PM production peak on the 11th of October
